Found in Jerusalem.This is an excellent piece with two small handles which were used to hang the container in the air. It most likely contained something precious, like honey, and it is a great piece to demonstrate the daily life and culture of the ancient Israelites.

Late Bronze Age Pottery Medicine Jug – Found in Israel
Late Bronze medicine jug Biblical pottery.
This is an excellent piece which was imported from Cyprus during the late bronze period, and was found in Israel. This type of vessel is called a bilbil, and was used to store medicine. The shape of this piece has led some scholars to believe that it was used for opium, although this is still debated.
Very good condition.

Side A: double cornucopia design with a pomegranate in the middle (this same design is on the 2 shekel coin of the current NIS)Side B: Paleo-Hebrew inscription with a wreath on the outside. Inscription reads, “Jochanan (John Hyrcanus I or II), the high priest, and council of the Jews.” This indicates the minting authority during Hasmonean rule.
