Description

The silver shekel coin of Tyre was used for the temple tax in Jerusalem. This was at the time Jesus taught in the second Temple up until the First Revolt in 66 A.D. Discovered on archeological digs in Israel.

After Jesus and his disciples arrived in Capernaum, the collectors of the two-drachma temple tax came to Peter and asked, “Doesn’t your teacher pay the temple tax?” (Matthew 17:24)
