Gordanius was the Roman Cesar who ruled in the early 3rd century A.D.

Both he and his son were men reported to be fond of literature. They accomplished much but were more interested in intellectual pursuits. Neither possessed the necessary skills or resources to be considered able statesmen or powerful rulers.

Having embraced the cause of Gordian, the senate was obligated to continue the revolt against Maximinus. They appointed Pupienus and Balbinus as joint emperors. Nevertheless, by the end of 238, the recognized emperor would be Gordian III, his grandson.
