Description

Roman oil lamp ancient pottery from Jerusalem.

Red clay Roman period oil lamp 4″ inch long.

Jesus encountered Roman governors in Jerusalem and Galilee during this Second Temple period.

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. (Psalm: 119)

Beautiful classic Roman oil lamp with decoration around. Lamp of daily use in ancient Roman homes in Jerusalem.

This lamp was extremely simple and practical, lacking “slip” and bearing little ornamentation. The lamps of this period were made this way: The body was thrown on the potters wheel with a single hand movement. Nozzles were made separately and attached to the body then fired.

Roman empire was in Jerusalem up to third century.
