Description

Ancient Byzantine period clay oil lamp – Discovered In Jerusalem.

The Byzantine oil lamp is shaped like an elongated triangle with a sharpened apex and rounded base.

There is no differentiation between the body and the nozzle, they are not coated and usually lack handles.

The ordinary Byzantine clay oil lamp was prevalent throughout Israel, chiefly the central region. In contrast of the high degree of regional diversity which existed before, the Byzantine was dominated by a single type of lamp.

Moreover I will take from them the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstones and the light of the lamp. (Jeremiah 25:10)

Comes with a certificate of authenticity and all required documents for export approval.

Byzantine oil lamps used in 5th to the 7th century in Jerusalem area.

The most prevalent motif on the nozzle of the typical byzantine clay oil lamp is the palm or a schematic pattern of a menorah.

The presence of a menorah on Christian oil lamps has led to the development of theories. No conclusions on the issues have been reached yet.
