Description

Late Bronze Age bilbil (1550-1200 B.C.) Discovered in Israel.

A bilbil is a specific style of small medicine jug used in the Late Bronze Age.  This jug was originally made in Cyprus, then imported to Canaan (Land of Israel) in ancient times.

Scholars have suggested that this type of vessel was specifically used to import opium, although this is still debated.

  • Very good condition.
  • Height: 5.6″ / 14.5 cm.

A rare, authentic piece which demonstrates the wealth and trade connections of Canaan during the period of the Amarna Letters.

Then I went down to the potter’s house, and there he was, making something on the wheel. But the vessel that he was making of clay was spoiled in the hand of the potter; so he remade it into another vessel, as it pleased the potter to make. (Jeremiah 18:3-4)

Comes with a certificate of authenticity and all documents required for export.
