Before the Roman period, glass was made with a sand core mold, and was extremely expensive. During the Roman period, glass blowing was invented, which changed the entire glass industry. Glass became much more common, and one of the first types of vessels to be made using this new blowing technique. This is the small elongated bottle that we call the “tear bottle.

You number my wanderings; Put my tears into Your bottle; Are they not in Your book? When I cry out to You, Then my enemies will turn back; This I know, because God is for me. (Psalm 56:8-9)
