Jesus Christ Has Conquered – Bronze Byzantine Cross

This is a bronze Byzantine cross dating to the 7th century AD. It was found in Jerusalem. Crosses of this type served as souvenirs for the Christians who came on pilgrimages from across the Roman Empire to visit the Holy Land. The journey to the land of the Bible was long and arduous, and when the pilgrims returned to their homelands, the souvenirs that they brought back with them became family heirlooms, passed down from generation to generation.

This bronze Byzantine cross is engraved with IC XC NI KA which means “Jesus Christ Has Conquered.” It is a reminder that when Jesus died on the cross, and then rose again, He triumphed over sin and death. And, through Jesus, we can also be victorious.

“So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: ‘Death is swallowed up in victory.
