Description

Iron Age II Black Perfume Juglet – Time of Solomon

Most ancient pottery has a terra-cotta color, due to the color of the clay from which it was made. However, some vessels, such as this small black perfume juglet, had a unique black color. The small size of this juglet indicates that it held a valuable substance that was used in small quantities, perhaps spiced or perfumed oil. This juglet dates to the Iron Age IIA, the period in which King Solomon lived. It is a reminder of the wealth and splendor of Solomon’s kingdom.

“Then she gave the king one hundred and twenty talents of gold, spices in great quantity, and precious stones. There never again came such abundance of spices as the Queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon.” – 1 Kings 10:10

This black perfume juglet has a rounded base that widens quickly to the widest point of the vessel. It tapers to the base of the rim, which flares slightly at the top. A small handle stretches from the shoulder of the juglet to the neck.

Height:3.8″ Inches / 9 Cm.
