Description

Bronze Trilobate Arrowhead from the Roman Period

In the first century AD, the Judeans revolted against their overlords, the Romans. Beginning in 66 AD, Jewish Zealots attempted to gain control of the region, but it was a loosing battle. The Roman general, Vespasian, moved systematically through the land, attacking cities and killing the rebels. The superior training, weaponry, and supplies of the Roman legions quickly turned the tide of the revolt in their favor. Finally, the Roman forces arrived at Jerusalem. They besieged the city, and finally destroyed it, reducing the Jewish temple to ashes and killing thousands of people.

Evidence for the battles of the Jewish revolt remains to this day. Archaeological excavations often uncover destroyed cities from this period, including weaponry such as arrowheads. This trilobate arrowhead is a fine example of a Roman military weapon. The three-bladed shape of the arrowhead allowed it to pierce enemy armor, making it an excellent piece of military equipment.

“For look! The wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow on the string, that they may shoot secretly at the upright in heart.” – Psalm 11:2
